CJIAC Commits to Carbon Management and Sustainable Airport Operations

The Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation (CJIAC) is committed to minimizing its environmental impact and contributing to global efforts to mitigate climate change.

As Guyana’s primary international gateway, CJIAC recognizes its responsibility to lead by example in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) associated with airport operations and supporting the sustainable development aspirations of The Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

In alignment with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, which promotes a low-carbon, climate-resilient development pathway while advancing economic growth, CJIAC is committed to integrating sustainable practices into its operations and contributing to national efforts to reduce emissions and enhance environmental stewardship.

As such, CJIAC hereby commits to implementing and maintaining a structured Carbon Management Programme in accordance with the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) framework established by Airports Council International (ACI). Through this commitment, CJIAC will measure, monitor, and manage greenhouse gas emissions within its operational control, identify opportunities for emissions reduction, improve energy efficiency, and pursue continual improvement in environmental performance.

By undertaking these actions, CJIAC aims to reduce its carbon footprint, strengthen the sustainability of airport operations, and support Guyana’s vision of low-carbon and climate-resilient development as articulated in the LCDS 2030.
